This week, we met with our newest showcase designer, Chantel Goode. Chantel is a budding fashion designer who’s designs convey a sense of youthfulness and fun while favoring a bright and colorful floral palette. Keep an eye out for Chantel in the future as she continues to hone her craft and make a name for herself in the fashion industry.

Q: What first drew you to the fashion industry? Tell us how you got started.

A: What drew me to the ever-changing fashion industry was the diversity and the uniqueness that everyone has. I got started when I went to Orlando Tech Fashion technology class 2 years ago, and learned the basics of sewing and garment construction.

Q: What career would you like to have in the fashion industry?

A: I would like to mainly be a fashion merchandiser and buyer of clothing for an appeal store. But I want to design clothing on the side.

Q: What has been the biggest struggle for you in building your fashion career?

A: My biggest struggle so far has been my lack of knowledge for the business side of fashion, also trying to get into a great fashion school such as the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.

Q: Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

A: I get my inspirations from online stores, websites, magazines, and fashion blogs that that I like, such as Pinterest, Tumblr, YouTube, 17 Magazine, Instagram, Lulus, Windsor, Forever 21, H&M just to name few.

Q: What hobbies do you have that relate to the fashion industry?

A: I like sewing and pattern drafting and to created my own designs. I also draw out my designs on paper, and look online for inspirations. And I like to go shopping online and in-store, I’m kind of obsessed.

Q: What advice would you give to other designers who are looking to break into the industry?

A: I would tell them to just go for it, do you, be you, and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something.

Q: Who are your current favorite fashion designers/fashion brands?

A: My favorite fashions designers lately are Balmain Paris, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Elie Saab, and Dior.
