Q: What first drew you to the fashion industry? Tell us how you got started, and how your career/personal path lead you to where you are today.
A: As a child growing up, I’ve always had a passion for fashion. As I grew older, my affinity for fashion became more evident throughout the years; as a result, it drew me to the fashion industry. The passion for fashion developed so strongly within me, I began to visualize different fashion ideas and concepts. At this point, I was unaware that I had a natural “Gift of Creativity” to actually birth my ideas and concepts into fashion design formation. In the year 2011, I met a very gifted and talented young man by the name of Michael at the Entrepreneur Ministry that was a part of my former church. We connected immediately, and then I approached him and shared my interest in hiring him as my fashion graphic designer. We proceeded to schedule an appointment to discuss how he can assist me with bringing my ideas and concept into manifestation. During our meeting he created a template for me and instructed me to communicate my ideas and concepts into fashion designs exactly how I visualize them in my mind. I followed his instructions, and that is how I got started on my journey to becoming a fashion designer. Michael was very instrumental in activating the Gift of Creativity” that is on the inside of me. It was in that moment my career path and destiny changed forever which has lead me to where I am today.
Q: Can you describe the personality behind your designs? What makes them unique and different?
A: The personality behind my design stems from my own personal taste and style in fashion which is “Elegant Flamboyant” and “Harmonic Refined.” My creations convey upscale, class, elegance and sophistication. The persona of my designs speaks boldness through vibrant colors, flare, pleats of various kinds and bows that make an impacting fashion statement. What makes my designs unique and different is my ability to create pieces that are rare and royal. Most of my styles are Victorian and vintage in nature with added accessories such as crystals and stones.
Q: What has been the biggest struggle for you in building your fashion career?
A: My biggest struggle in building my fashion career was an array of limited resources. Although it was challenging for me, I was persistent and determined to overcome those challenges, so that I can share my gift with the world, live my dream and become successful.
Q: Where do you find inspiration for your designs? Who or what has had the biggest influence on you as a designer?
A: I draw inspiration from God. I am a co-creator with him. Also, I find inspiration for my designs from a variety of sources in nature. Believe it or not, the biggest influence on me is my natural “Gift of Creativity” that was combined with my flare for fashion which influenced me to start me own clothing line.
Q: Tell us a little about your design process. How do you approach creating a new line or fashion piece?
A: My process is consisting of ideas with different concepts. First, I develop an idea then I use that idea to create various different styles and concepts. My approach to creating a new line is to simply implement an idea and design conceptual pieces that would compliment the new line.
Q: What advice would you give to other designers who are looking to break into the industry?
A: My advice to other designers – In order for you to truly enjoy the art of “Fashion Designing” you must develop a strong passion for fashion. Strive to use your creativity to design with distinction which will set you apart from your peers. It is imperative that your image and appearance conveys a message to the world that fashion is a value to you. Please be advice to always be yourself because an original is always worth more than a copy.
